How do we manage and measure our environmental impacts?
Capita Symonds operates a Business Management System (BMS) which integrates Quality,
Environmental and Health and Safety. We have a corporate environmental policy and
objectives which are monitored and reviewed.
What are we doing to combat climate change?
Climate change is a growing challenge for businesses. Capita Symonds is committed
to promoting and delivering sustainability by adopting business activities and processes
that meet our, our client’s, and our stakeholders needs while protecting, sustaining
and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future.
To promote this through the business there are Corporate Objectives set and monitored by the BMS team and externally for our projects and clients, a Sustainability Forum meets regularly with representatives across the business to ensure best practice and delivery of our objectives.
How are we managing waste?
Within our ISO 14001 Environmental Processes we actively manage our waste to minimise
impact and purchase from sustainable sources where suitable. We also manage the
resources we use, including the waste carrier, how we recycle or responsibly dispose
of them and the final destination.
Ten Green Things
This guide is an environmental initiative which was initially suggested by Jennifer
Moye and produced by the Ecology team in Cwmbran. The guide outlines 10 green things
that staff can do to save energy at work and 10 ten green things that the company
can do to reduce energy consumption. This initiative was adapted throughout Capita
Symonds offices.
Volunteering Projects
Capita Symonds get involved in many volunteering projects and mentoring across the
business, from linking with schools, undertaking environmental regeneration projects
and community clean up days.
The Blackburn office took part in a volunteer day at East Lancashire Hospice where they took part in gardening, painting and basic DIY in order to improve patient facilities. The event formed the latest Charity of the Year Initiative which is dedicated to supporting the Hospice through a range of projects and activities during 2008.
Think - Capita Symonds wide
Think 08 was an exhibition and conference about sustainability in the built environment
and Capita Symonds was a Platinum Sponsor, alongside the likes of Atkins, Gardiner
