The project
The aim of this project was to fill the void created by the lack
of Sixth Form opportunities in the South Sefton area. The college
would serve South Sefton and its adjoining areas, catering for
approximately 550 students.
Capita Symonds provided project management, clerk of works and
valuation services for the new £12M Sixth Form College. Our
involvement commenced in early 2006 from early feasibility stage
through to Outline Planning submission in August 2006, leading to
contract award in December 2007 and completion in early July
2009.
The powerful vision was to create a new state-of-the-art Sixth
Form College to serve the growing educational needs of local
people. The site close to Litherland High School was selected for
its central location in the ‘target area’ close to other schools
and community facilities (including the brand new Sports Park).
Completed in July 2009 on time and within budget the College was
immediately available for staff to be ready for the intake of
students in early September 2009. The Governments Agency for
funding and monitoring post -16 education and training (the
Learning Skills Council) provided the bulk of the £12M funding
required.
The college was officially opened by H.R.H. The Countess of
Wessex.
The Capita Symonds team worked closely with the client from the
conceptual stage. This ensured that the client's mission statement
“to provide an inclusive, caring, lifelong learning and
teaching environment for the students and workforce in the College
as well as the residents of South Sefton in a state-of-the-art
building” was closely followed.
