The Project
The major improvement scheme consists of upgrading bus stops at
various locations within Merthyr Tydfil County Borough in
compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995
(amended 2005) guidelines, and to accommodate the low floor bus
services operating in the borough.
The aims and objectives of the proposed
improvements are to enable disabled people to use existing bus stop
services. This will be achieved by design and construction
practices to overcome physical features, which make it impossible
or unreasonably difficult for disabled people to use the
service.
The scheme will involve the following
construction practices:
- Take down and re-erect existing bus shelters
and raise/ lower to suit proposed new levels.
- Concreting of bus shelter bases where
required.
- Laying block paving, kerbing, fluted channel
and Brett Kassel kerbs (160mm upstand).
- The fixing of hazard marker posts.
- Road markings
- Bus Stop Flag Signing
- Footway construction and
re-instatement/re-profiling works
