The residential area to the north of Gatwick Airport has been declared an Air Quality Management Area by the local authority - Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.

As Gatwick Airport contributes a significant percentage of nitrogen dioxide to the area the council have developed an ‘Air Quality Action Plan’ detailing how they will manage air quality in the region.

Capita Symonds was engaged to deliver aviation specific air quality expertise to Gatwick Airport, to help them deliver their Air Quality Action Plan. This included the development of a new Airside Vehicle Emissions Management Strategy, an investigation into emissions from auxiliary power units, providing technical support and liaison with external stakeholders.
