The project
The proposed Personal Rapid
Transit (PRT) system in Delhi will feature ‘pod cars’ transporting
individuals or small groups - usually no more than six in a car -
on an elevated track in battery-powered driverless
vehicles.
In 2009 Capita Symonds was appointed by
Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit Systems Limited (DIMTS) to
carry out an initial techno economic feasibility study into the
scheme. The study considered all aspects of route planning, demand
assessment, engineering feasibility and business case evaluation
for the PRT. It also provided an assessment of operations and
financial forecasting of revenue.
In 2011, on the recommendation of the Delhi
Chief Minister, Capita Symonds was again appointed by DIMTS to
provide a report recommending the preferred location for the PRT
from five proposed areas across the city.
The ongoing study includes demand assessment
of the proposed system, patronage assessment, network layout,
system sizing, design of the operating principles, benefit/cost
analysis, and financial modelling. When complete, the study will
propose the preferred location for the PRT system in Delhi with
detailed assessment of the costs, business case, local safety and
regulatory requirements, and procurement methodology to develop,
deliver and operate the system.
