The project
This Welsh Assembly funded
project provided a section of commuter cycle route running along
the A470 corridor between Coryton and Pontypridd.
The scheme provides a safer
alternative route for cyclists and allows a cycling prohibition to
be introduced on the A470 trunk road.
Capita Glamorgan Consultancy (then
GEC) undertook the project management, design, and site supervision
with the scheme being opened to the public early in 2006.
Project management required
coordinating the requirements of the Welsh Assembly Government,
Sustrans, the local Highway Authority, and private land owners as
key stakeholders.
The project provides a new 2.5
kilometres cycle pedestrian facility, linking to the existing
highway network, Taff’s Well railway station, the Taff Trail and
Walnut Tree cycle routes. 1.75 km of the route is newly constructed
along a disused railway line with a new footbridge constructed
across the A4054 Cardiff Road at Taffs Well.
