The project
Capita Symonds have recently submitted a full planning
application for an extension and alterations to Accrington Academy.
The Academy formed in September 2008 and replaced Accrington
Moorhead Sports College and will be run by United Learning Trust as part of
the Church Schools Trust.
Following on from the successful delivery of the first major
wave of Lancashire County Councils BSF (Building Schools for the
Future) project, the Local Education Partnership (LEP) which
includes Lancashire County Council, Catalyst Lend Lease and Capita
Symonds, have been asked to deliver the academy project worth
approximately £16.2M.
The Academy will cater for 900 11-16 year olds plus a 250 place
sixth form and will specialise in Sports and Maths.
Capita Symonds are providing Architectural, Project Management,
Landscape Design, Structural Engineering, Cost Management and
Planning Services.
The project, commencing onsite in Q2 2010 will be constructed by
Bovis Lend Lease and consists of a new building extension providing
a bold new frontage to the Academy with significant works to the
existing buildings including the roofing over of two existing
courtyards.
New sports pitches and hard play areas to Sport England
guidelines are to be provided together with Major landscaping
improvements.
