The project

Capita Symonds provided the LDA with programme and project management services at the inception of the London 2012 Games programme.

One of the company’s core roles was the programme management of 13 workstreams including site investigation and baseline surveys; business relocations; the resultant advanced enabling works planning applications; and the CPO process. Another core part of the team’s work was providing advice on sustainability issues including remediation; ecological conservation consultation; and means of minimising landfill disposal.

In consultation with the LDA, Capita Symonds also proposed and/or reviewed a number of key initiatives which resulted in both time and cost savings including:

  • The LDA advising on setting up a combined planning authority dedicated to the project which resulted in the LDA developing the Joint Planning Authority Team (JPAT) comprising representatives from the four boroughs within which parts of the Park is situated, which accelerated the planning application process;
  • The novel use of Regulation 19 of the EIA Regulations to enable the original planning application to be submitted within the IOC bid programme.
