Capita Symonds’
team of in-house professionals has extensive experience in
coordinating and managing Sustainability Appraisals (SA) and
Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) to ensure
compliance.
We have also prepared reports for Regional
Spatial Strategies and Local Development Frameworks for a variety
of clients, including the Environment Agency.
The aim of Sustainability Appraisal is to
promote sustainable development through the integration of social,
environmental and economic considerations into the preparation of
Regional Spatial Strategies (RSS), Development Plan Documents (DPD)
and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD).
SA’s are now mandatory under the Planning
& Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Regional planning bodies and
local planning authorities must now also conduct a Strategic
Environmental Assessment in accordance with the requirements of
European Directive 2001/42/EC.
We see sustainability appraisal as an
integrated part of the development process and provide a
comprehensive approach - coordinating these assessments with wider
inputs relating to Health & Inequality Impact Assessments,
Socio-Economic Impact Assessments, Appropriate Assessments (AA) and
Strategic Flood Risk Assessments (SFRA).
